PRESCRIPTION
PRO CON
The death penalty should be kept legal within the United States because it deters crime, is retribution for the victims and their loved ones, and is the morally right thing to do.
|
The death penalty should not be kept legal within the United States because it is expensive, it should not be up to the government to determine the death of a person, there are people who are wrongly convicted, and there is a current shortage within the United States for lethal injection drugs.
|
IMPLICATIONS
PRO: What could happen if we decide to keep the death penalty?
If we keep the death penalty legal within the United States, then we are recognizing that the government has the decision of power over a person's death and we will be giving up our strongest deterrence for capital crime.
|
CON: What could happen if we decided to get rid of the death penalty?
If we do not keep the death penalty legal within the United States, then criminals will no longer have a deterrent from committing murder as strong as death and there may be more crime as an outcome. Furthermore, we would not be fixing the current overflow of people in prisons, but we would be getting rid of the lethal injection drug shortage within the United States.
